THE DARWIN CUP

During the Darwin Cup Carnival is the time when Darwin comes alive.  Locals and interstate visitors flock to the track and the social set brace themselves for a month long party. Over 1.3 million dollars in prize money is up for grabs with racing participants flocking from the southern reaches to take on the locals in their own backyard.   A host of spectacular events are available from the pure elegance of the Chief Ministers Cocktail party to the spectacular Qantas Darwin Turf Club Gala Ball which has been touted as the largest outdoor ball in the Southern Hemisphere.During this time it is dry season and the weather is magnificent and there is a vibrant atmosphere that is contagious all around the town.
